A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark

Jesus Calms the Storm

As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, "Let's cross to the other side of the lake." He was already in the boat, so they started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). But soon a fierce storm arose. High waves began to break into the boat until it was nearly full of water. Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. Frantically they woke him up, shouting, "Teacher, don't you even care that we are going to drown?" When he woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the water, "Quiet down!" Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. And he asked them, Why are you so afraid? Do you still not have faith in me? And they were filled with awe and said among themselves, Who is this man, that even the wind and waves obey him?"

The Gospel of the Lord.

Reflection

Today, the gospel is about the time when Jesus and his disciples cross the other side of the lake. There came a storm and starting to break their boat due to high waves and they're started to panicked. Jesus, on the other hand peacefully sleeping until they woke him up and asked if Jesus care for their safety. When Jesus woke up, he commands the wind to be calm and still, and with that, the storm stopped.

The message of the gospel is that Jesus is stronger than a storm. The storm is like the challenges we faced in our life. There will be times you feel like you cannot take the problems anymore. You will come to a point that you are questioning yourself if you deserve that to happen in your life. And, when that happens, do not be afraid. Jesus does care. Jesus is there. Jesus will calm the storm. The gospel reminds us to be still and have faith in God. Do not be afraid because God is always there supporting you. Continue sailing even the wind hinders you to your destination. You may not control the wind of challenges but you can adjust the sail of actions to overcome the storm.
