A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark
The apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and told him all they had done and what they had taught. Then Jesus said, "Let's get away from the crowds for a while and rest." There were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his apostles didn't even have time to eat. They left by boat for a quieter spot. But many people saw them leaving, and people from many towns ran ahead along the shore and met them as they landed. A vast crowd was there as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he taught them many things.
The Gospel of the Lord.
Reflection
Today, the gospel reminds us that there are times it is easy to be alone as it gives peace in ourselves. But let us remember Jesus who frees himself to those people who needed him. He was so available to all those in need, the sick, the poor, and the outcasts. Jesus showed compassion on the crowd and began to teach them as he said, "they were like sheep without a shepherd."
Sometimes we become too self-centered and have very poor attention to those important things like giving time to attend mass every Sunday. There are also people who seek our help but we just ignored them. The message today is to follow and be like Jesus who has compassion for those people in need. He brings us towards God. He helps us understand that we can put our faith in something that will not fail us. Let us set aside our schedules and other stuff to reach out to humanity and to God. For in giving we receive, and as we have our Lord in our side, we can rest assured that we will renew our strength.
