Gospel of the day: Matthew 5:43-48

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew

Teaching about Love for Enemies

"You have heard that the law of Moses says, Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and on the unjust, too. If you love only those who love you, what good is that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.

The Gospel of the Lord.

Reflection

Today, the gospel tells us that we should also love our enemies. They may hurt us in different aspects but let's ask ourselves: What do I gain by hating that person back? Suffering is the only thing that we can acquire when we hated someone. Pray for them instead of hating back. We will not achieve peace and happiness in our hearts if there is someone whom we hated. The gospel invites us to forgive and accept those people who hurt us. There should be equality just like God equally gives sunlight and rain to all. Be nice to everyone. Everyone deserves to be loved.
