Gospel of the day: Mark 6:53-56

February 8, 2021

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark

When they arrived at Gennesaret on the other side of the lake, they anchored the boat and climbed out. The people standing there recognized him at once, and they ran throughout the whole area and began carrying sick people to him on mats. Wherever he went -- in villages and cities and out on the farms--they laid the sick in the market plazas and streets. The sick begged him to let them at least touch the fringe of his robe, and all who touched it were healed.

Reflection

The gospel today is about the faith of the people. When Jesus arrived and climbed out in the boat, he was easily recognized by the crowd. The people left all their works as they gather to meet Jesus because they believe that he can heal all illnesses. Everyone hopes to touch him even just his clothes because whoever touched him with faith they all were healed. This an invitation for us to open our yeas and hearts to see and experience Jesus. There is no assurance of the coming of Christ so let us ask ourselves: Are we ready to meet him? Would we seek him out and ask him to heal us? We don't know the day nor the hour of his coming. However, we should always have faith in him that he will come and he will heal us. Don't lose hope and keep the eyes of faith on Jesus Christ.
